20th Century Cyclone Trends and Air Pollution

| Abstract: |
I am analyzing trends in mid-latitude cyclone statistics and how they relate to air pollution meteorology.
Since mid-latitude cyclones are the major ventilation mechanism of atmospheric pollutants, future changes in this ventilation may have dramatic effects on air quality. Many studies have found poleward shifts of storm tracks and a reduction in cyclone frequency.
I will attempt to verify the ability of GCMs to reproduce trends of the 20th century with a focus on the summer, when air pollution is at its worst. This verification would improve confidence in the future trends being forecast by GCMs.
