Abstract:
Our study is based on a logistic regression model of socio-political and geographic data from Sub-Saharan Africa. We find a significant relationship between change in annual precipitation and the likelihood of conflict onset in Sub-Saharan nations. That is, a sizeable negative change in precipitation from one year to the next is correlated with the onset of civil conflict in the following year.
