Extreme wind speeds in Northern Hemisphere winter and mid-latitude cyclones

The subject of this initiative will be a comprehensive analysis of the mean state and the variability of the northern hemisphere stormtrack activity (defined as the bandpass filtered geopotential height, e.g. 500 hPa) on different time scales. Special emphasis will be laid on the identification of the reliability of the anthropogenic influence on Europe and its relationship to potential baroclinic instability changes (e.g. eady-parameter).
