Decadal variability in the tropics and the role of land-surface processes

The project will analyze the decadal-multidecadal change in a selectd coupled ocean atmosphere models forced by external forcing such as CO2. Focus will be to study the degree to which these models reproduce the observed changes in recent decades especially in the tropics. We will compare the GCM results with an intermediate model results we have been using, in order to understand the mechanisms of such changes. In addition, we will analyze and conduct additional model runs if necessary to delineate the role of land processes. We will also analyze the changes in the hydrological cycle emphasizing land and freshwater flux
to the ocean.
