(see associated plot). 

Probable cause(s): Unknown. While maps of surface runoff imply 
that the negative-valued points are few in number, their magnitude 
exceeds what might be expected from numerical roundoff. These 
anomalies therefore may be symptomatic of more fundamental problems 
in this field.
